Accommodation
Exchange students should look for a room in the private sector (no room are allocated for exchange students in our residence halls).
There are many student accommodation offers around the campus, whether single furnished rooms or flats with private or shared facilities with other students or the landlord.
Rent typically ranges from €350 to €500 per month, depending on the type of housing and the level of comfort. A rental deposit of one to three months’ rent may be required by the landlord.
A list of useful links and offers will be e-mailed to you after you complete your registration online. ULB’s Accommodation Office also offers an online database.
If you have not found suitable accommodation prior to arrival, a list of temporary accommodation offers will provided after you complete your registration online.
Insurance
Healthcare
Students from EU countries, Norway and Iceland: please make sure you bring your European health insurance card. This will allow you to enrol in Belgium's mutual health insurance system (‘mutuelle’)—this insurance will cover your medical costs.
Students from other countries: you may subscribe to a Belgian ‘mutuelle’ without a probation period, but you will need to pay a monthly fee. Alternatively, you may also subscribe to a private insurance in your home country.
ULB insurance
Our university will cover you with a physical injuries insurance. This insurance will cover you on our campuses and during trips made as part of your university activities (to and from campus). This includes liability insurance for injuries or damages that you might cause to third parties on ULB campuses and during academic activities. Please note that this is not a substitute for the above mentioned health insurance.
Buddy programme and student organisations
Prior to arrival, you will have the chance to take part in our buddy programme. Your buddy will be a Solvay student volunteering to help with your integration. Several student organisations are also involved in the social integration of exchange students.
