When Ernest Solvay decided to create his business school in 1903, the primary objective was to respond to the need to train business leaders and managers who were sufficiently well versed in the sciences to be drivers of innovation and change. It is not irrelevant that this school was created at the beginning of the century, after 50 years of industrial, financial and social revolutions. The role of the educated "elites" had changed - from the bourgeois aristocrat to the dynamic captain of industry - of which Ernest Solvay was the best representative.

This school also echoed similar projects in the rest of Europe, notably in France, Italy and Germany.

If you want to know more about the complete history of the school, don't hesitate to get hold of the historical book produced for the 100 years of the faculty in 2003.

In the meantime, here is a brief overview of the school's 120 years
